Spacemaker Acquisition Gives Architects and Developers ‘Automation Superpower’

Autodesk University 2020 was an incredible week filled with exciting updates, new tool releases, and meaningful interactions. Even though it was virtual, the experience felt more personal and engaging than ever before. We introduced new ways for you to connect with each other and with Autodesk team members, making the event feel like a true community gathering.

One of the most significant highlights for me this week was the announcement of our agreement to acquire Spacemaker. This is a milestone I’m incredibly excited about, as it aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of design. Spacemaker will join our Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Design Solutions Group, bringing powerful AI-driven automation and advanced design capabilities to architects and owners alike. As the legal team would say: “This transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during Autodesk’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, ending January 31, 2021.”

Founded in 2016 in Oslo, Norway, Spacemaker has built a cloud-based AI platform that empowers architects, urban planners, and real estate developers to optimize building sites from the very beginning of the design process. Their technology not only helps maximize site potential but also promotes sustainable and smarter design choices early on. This early-stage optimization fosters better collaboration across all project disciplines and supports faster decision-making. Spacemaker's success is driven by a strong team of over 110 employees, with more than 60% working in technical roles—combining expertise from data science, software engineering, design, and real-world practice. Their CEO and co-founder, Havard Haukeland, is an architect who transitioned into entrepreneurship, which speaks volumes about their unique perspective and mission.

By integrating Spacemaker into our ecosystem, we’re giving customers the ability to explore multiple design variations and optimize them based on specific site criteria. This means they can spend more time on the creative aspects of their work rather than getting bogged down in repetitive tasks. In the coming months, we’ll be working closely with the Spacemaker team to expand their business and look for opportunities to integrate their technology into our existing tools. For example, we see great potential in combining Spacemaker with FormIt for conceptual design and creating seamless workflows with Revit. Additionally, Spacemaker complements our sustainability analysis tools like Insight, and we're excited about the possibilities for enhancing environmental impact assessments for our users.

This acquisition isn’t just about expanding our product portfolio—it’s about accelerating automation in the AEC industry and pushing the boundaries of what BIM can do. By investing in Spacemaker, we’re not only supporting the future of architecture but also empowering our customers with smarter, more efficient tools to shape the built environment.

I'm thrilled to welcome the Spacemaker team to Autodesk and to continue our shared mission of redefining what’s possible in design and construction.

Conductive Film

Mianyang Prochema Ito Pet Film, Agnw Film, Copper Grid Metal Mesh Pet Film etc are widely used in touch screen, PDLC smart glass, Military LCD display EMI Shielding, Unmanned shop RFID block fields, also a popular research substrate for DSC, OPV etc.

ITO vaccum sputtered film can be customized on different substrate like PET, PEN, POLYIMIDE or FEP,PVDF film upon request for various applications.

Agnw PET film is with high transparency and excellent flexibility for large size touch screen and touch film. Resistance from 9-200 ohms/sq for choice.

Metal mesh PET film is micro mesh deposited on PET film, extreme low resistance and high transparency, high EMI shielding property. We have 45 degree angle mesh in opi 85,100 and 150, also has item of blackened film anti glare no need angle adjustment, It is ideal EMI shielding material on touch panel, LCD and unmanned shop glass window.
