With the continuous advancement of China's equipment manufacturing capabilities and increasing localization rates, bearings—key components in mechanical systems—have gained growing strategic importance. However, the domestic high-end bearing market remains largely dominated by foreign players, with their products often priced 3 to 20 times higher than local alternatives. This gap has driven Wazhou Group, a leading Chinese bearing manufacturer, to invest heavily in technological transformation and innovation during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period. As a result, the company built up substantial technical expertise and overall strength, setting its sights on becoming one of the top ten global bearing manufacturers. Despite joint ventures with international giants and the introduction of advanced foreign equipment, ZWZ was still not considered a true "strong enterprise" in the global bearing industry. The lack of effective digestion and absorption of imported technologies, along with an incomplete innovation system, limited the impact of R&D efforts. Recognizing this, ZWZ focused on improving its innovation framework, integrating production, research, and development. It established a comprehensive technology center and developed three key platforms for product R&D, manufacturing, and inspection. To support these efforts, ZWZ invested 50 million yuan in building a state-of-the-art testing center and set up the only national-level laboratory in the bearing industry, connecting it with international institutions. Today, ZWZ’s market share has significantly grown. Its automotive bearings are now used by the top three and five major Chinese automakers, representing a 120% increase from two years ago. The company has also achieved domestic supply for imported vehicles and become a preferred supplier for some clients. In the metallurgy sector, ZWZ has broken foreign monopolies in large-scale equipment bearings. Export products like gear box cylindrical bearings and rolling mill bearings have entered developed markets, with export growth exceeding 50% for two consecutive years. Six ZWZ products have even entered the Japanese market, marking the first time a Chinese brand has reached the top tier of global bearing producers. ZWZ has long aimed to develop specialized bearings that can replace imports. Recently, it has offered customized designs for companies in steel and automotive sectors, opening new potential markets for high-end bearings. In China’s bearing industry, "ZWZ" has earned recognition as one of the few brands holding three prestigious titles: "China Famous Brand," "China Top Brand Product," and "National Mianjian Product." Focusing on high-end products, Wazhou is now targeting precision, high-tech, and high-value-added bearings. During the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the company launched 3,800 new products, upgraded 1,100 old models, replaced 1,200 imported items, and filled over 200 domestic gaps. With 252 technological developments and more than 1,000 application technologies, ZWZ has made significant progress. Over 80% of the 175 new products developed in the first quarter of this year are high-tech imports, showing the company’s commitment to innovation. Wang Lushun, chairman of Wazhou, emphasized that 14 out of the 16 national revitalization projects in equipment manufacturing involve bearings. This year, ZWZ will focus on developing supporting bearings for these projects and launch the "063 Project," conducting in-depth research on nine major projects and 36 subprojects. The company plans to invest 1 billion yuan in a high-tech industrial park, which will serve as a base for R&D and production of critical bearings for major national infrastructure, including high-speed rail, aerospace, wind power, and precision machine tools. These initiatives mark a clear shift toward innovation-driven growth and solidify ZWZ’s position as a leader in China’s bearing industry.
