Petrochemical Association and foreign aid respond to REACH regulations

On January 9, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) signed a cooperation agreement with REACH Law Office, based in Helsinki, Finland. This partnership aims to support Chinese companies in navigating the complex EU REACH regulations, which have become a major challenge for chemical manufacturers and traders. Under the agreement, the two parties will work together to assist domestic enterprises in the petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical sectors, as well as downstream industries such as light manufacturing, textiles, electromechanics, and automotive. They will provide guidance on chemical registration requirements under REACH, including pre-registration and full registration processes. Additionally, both organizations are planning to host a seminar in Beijing in early March, focusing on REACH compliance and offering training sessions to help local businesses prepare effectively. According to the implementation timeline of REACH, the pre-registration period for chemicals will begin on June 1 this year. This regulation is considered one of the most significant trade barriers China has faced since joining the WTO. Its impact is expected to reach over 90% of chemical trade between China and the European Union. In response, the CPCIA has prioritized its efforts to support member companies in meeting these new regulatory demands.
