Baosteel Stainless Steel Machining Center successfully tested the heat load
After seven months of intensive construction, at 3:58 pm on July 28, the hot-rolled large slitting unit at Baosteel Stainless Steel Processing and Distribution Center in Baopu, Yueshan successfully cut a 1,650 mm wide hot-rolled stainless steel coil into a single piece. The 2-meter-long steel plate marked the official start of the heat load testing phase for the project. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the center's development and sets the stage for full-scale operations.
Over the next few years, the production capacity of key stainless steel bases—including Baosteel Stainless Steel Branch, Ningbo Baoxin, and Shanghai Krupp—is expected to reach 2 million tons annually. As the first major collaborative project between Baosteel and Baoshan District, the Processing and Distribution Center was designed with a "one-time planning, phased implementation, and rolling development" approach. Its primary focus is on stainless steel processing and distribution, with plans to expand its processing capabilities over time to enhance service functions, strengthen market competitiveness, and build the most competitive supermarket-style marketing and service platform in the stainless steel industry.
In addition to the hot-rolled shear line, a plasma underwater shear line and three cold-rolled shear lines have also been installed and are now in operation. Testing conditions are being gradually established as the project moves forward. It has also been announced that the second phase of the project will be launched this year. Once fully completed, the center’s annual stainless steel processing capacity is expected to reach 126,000 tons. This will position it as one of the largest processing, distribution, surface treatment, logistics, and trading centers for stainless steel products in East China and across the country.
The successful commissioning of this facility not only strengthens Baosteel’s presence in the stainless steel sector but also supports the broader goal of building a more efficient and integrated supply chain for high-quality stainless steel products. With continued investment and expansion, the center is well-positioned to meet growing demand and maintain its leadership in the industry.
