World-class automobile plant settled in the "national team" of Xingsha Automobile Group candidates

In the context of economic globalization and the ongoing integration of the global automotive industry, the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone has rapidly emerged as a key player in the automobile sector. Benefiting from China’s sustained economic growth and a vibrant, active auto consumption market, the zone has quickly built a strong industrial presence, attracting numerous car-related enterprises in just a few short years. World-class supporting companies have begun to establish their foothold in the region. One such example is Robert Bosch GmbH, a German multinational corporation and the world's largest supplier of automotive parts. Ranked 114th on the Fortune Global 500 list, the company generates annual sales of 36.9 billion euros, with 24.2 billion euros coming from its automotive division. China Automobile Changchun Electric Co., Ltd., a former state-owned enterprise based in Changsha, Hunan, previously known as Changsha Automobile Electrical Factory, has also found a new path through collaboration. With two decades of experience working with Bosch, the company eventually saw Bosch acquire part of its assets, leading to the establishment of Bosch Automotive Components (Changsha) Co., Ltd. As part of this partnership, Changchun Electric invested 300 million RMB to build a factory within the Changsha Economic Development Zone, serving as a key supporting facility for the new joint venture. "The decision by Bosch to choose the Changsha Economic Development Zone was driven by the region’s growing automotive potential," said Wen Shuxun, Director of the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone Administration Committee. "They even gave up more favorable conditions offered by other zones." Another major development in the area is the arrival of Changsha Beiqi Futian, which has become a standout in the Hunan automobile industry. When Beiqi Foton chose its southern base, the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone was selected due to both its promising market and the province’s strong supply chain capabilities. The region is home to over 100 auto parts manufacturers, including Changsha Cover Factory, Hunan Power Group, Liuyang Body Factory, and Hunan Axle Factory, with more than 20 auto parts producers in Changsha County alone. Currently, Beiqi Foton’s southern base in the zone has an annual production capacity of 50,000 complete vehicles. In addition, Sany Heavy Industries, a company that grew alongside the development zone, has entered the passenger vehicle manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, Changfeng Group, in collaboration with Japan’s Mitsubishi, now produces 50,000 complete vehicles annually. Altogether, there are 13 key automotive manufacturing enterprises in the zone, along with hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises providing support, forming a comprehensive industrial chain covering body frames, carriages, axles, and covers. Looking ahead, the Xingsha Automotive Industry Cluster is set to become one of three major automotive groups under Hunan Province’s development plan. Recently, Wei Jianguo, deputy director of the Ministry of Commerce, highlighted the goal of achieving 10% of global auto trade within a decade, aiming for over 120 billion yuan in exports. To reach this target, the Ministry is identifying and consolidating key auto and component manufacturers into clusters, with the Xingsha cluster likely to be among them. To further boost the industry, Hunan plans to enhance its capabilities in off-road and commercial vehicle development, establishing platforms for independent research and development. New local policies supporting the auto industry will also be introduced soon. With the arrival of top-tier suppliers, world-class vehicle factories, and the rise of independent R&D centers, a thriving automotive industry cluster is taking shape in the Changsha Economic Development Zone.
