The Ministry of Environmental Protection issued four national pollutant discharge standards

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment, along with the State Administration for Market Regulation, has recently released four new national pollutant discharge standards. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has issued such comprehensive environmental protection standards since its establishment. According to an official from the ministry, these four standards are expected to significantly enhance the control of pollution emissions and strengthen the national system for monitoring and managing pollutant discharges. According to reports, the four new standards include: "Interim Emission Standards for Coalbed Methane (Mine Gas)", "Pollution Control Standards for Domestic Waste Landfills", "Emission Standards for Pollutants from Heterocyclic Pesticide Industries", and "Limits and Measurement Methods for Exhaust Emissions from Heavy-Duty Gasoline Engines (China III and IV)". The "Interim Emission Standards for Coalbed Methane" represent a global first by introducing mandatory measures to control greenhouse gas emissions. By setting strict emission limits, the standard is expected to reduce annual methane emissions by approximately 2.5 billion cubic meters, equivalent to 37 million tons of COâ‚‚ emissions. The "Pollution Control Standards for Domestic Waste Landfills" revise the previous version and introduce more detailed requirements for site selection, facility design, and construction. It also mandates that both existing and new landfills must have effective wastewater treatment systems, ensuring that leachate meets discharge standards before being released. Special water pollutant limits have been introduced for areas with unique environmental needs, and the standards impose stricter monitoring on odorous gases generated from waste landfills. The "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in Heterocyclic Pesticide Industries" is the first national-level standard for pesticide-related water pollutants, developed after the Ministry of Ecology and Environment initiated the process of creating such regulations. The standard addresses specific production processes, pollution control technologies, and emission characteristics of heterocyclic pesticides, setting stringent limits for both conventional and industry-specific pollutants. Lastly, the "Limits and Measurement Methods for Exhaust Emissions from Heavy-Duty Gasoline Engines (China III and IV)" have lowered emission thresholds, improved testing procedures, and enhanced the durability of vehicle emission control systems. The new rules also emphasize the importance of vehicle compliance and the installation of onboard diagnostic systems to ensure better environmental performance. These updates reflect a stronger commitment to reducing air pollution and promoting cleaner transportation.
