High angle rescue in Deerfield

Around 1:30 PM today, the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District got a call about a window washer who was stuck near the top of a seven-story building on 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as they heard about it, they sent out an urgent call for backup from multiple fire departments. When the first crew arrived, they found the worker hanging upside down, just about six feet below the roofline. Things got serious fast, so they called in even more specialized help. Thankfully, Deerfield’s Truck 20 managed to get into place quickly and extend its aerial ladder to reach the stranded worker. Firefighters climbed up and carefully freed the guy from his precarious position, bringing him safely down without any major issues. We’ve got some photos coming in from folks at the scene, but unfortunately, none of them capture the moment before he was rescued. One image shows the window washer looking okay after being brought down, chatting with a police officer. Another picture captures him being helped into an ambulance for a quick check-up. It's impressive how well everything went considering the situation. We’ll keep you updated as we receive more pictures and details. This kind of rescue really highlights the skill and quick thinking of the firefighters involved. As someone who saw the whole thing unfold, I can say it was quite dramatic. The wind was blowing pretty hard, making the situation even more dangerous. But thanks to the coordinated efforts of everyone involved, the outcome could have been much worse. Let’s hope the worker is back on solid ground and feeling fine soon. If you have any firsthand accounts or additional photos, feel free to share them. It’s always great to hear from people who were there. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops!
