Chicago working fire, 7-5-14
This message comes from Eric Haak:
On Saturday, I responded to an active fire on the 6100 block of South Washtenaw. When I arrived, it was already under control within less than 10 minutes. I managed to snap a close-up shot of the spare tower ladder that Truck 39 was operating with. Over the weekend, the department was running low on spare tower ladders, so both Truck 34 and Truck 54 had to step in as trucks at some point. As you can see from the images, the older E-One models show significant signs of wear and tear, yet they seem to be in constant use compared to the frontline rigs. It’s also worth mentioning that Squad 5 was running with the old air mask rig as their response vehicle. Shop number G-487. The engines involved were 88 and 101, along with Truck 41 and Tower Ladder 39.

This incident really highlighted how critical it is to have reliable equipment and support systems in place, especially when dealing with emergencies like these. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.
