Latest Update: Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has restored electricity to more than 90% of customers impacted by Hurricane Milton. The company is also working to restore power to all affected schools by the end of today, helping communities return to normalcy. FPL has set up customer assistance centers in the hardest-hit areas, where residents can access ice, water, and support for restoration-related questions. Crews are working around the clock and will not stop until every customer has their power back.
Important Note: Some customers may have damage that prevents them from receiving electricity safely. These customers should contact a licensed electrician to make necessary repairs before FPL can safely restore service.

President and CEO Armando Pimentel's Message: “Although we've met our goal of restoring power to over 90% of customers impacted by Milton, we're not done yet. We've met our expected restoration timelines, and our crews will keep working day and night until all 166,000 remaining customers have their power back. We're also focused on restoring all affected schools by the end of today to help families in Florida get back on their feet. FPL is committed to doing the work safely and as quickly as possible.â€
Challenges in Restoration: Hurricane Milton was a powerful storm with significant impacts across much of the state, and crews are working through these challenges to restore power.
- Across the state, communities are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and the lingering effects of previous storms, which amplified the impact of Milton.
- The west coast faced storm surges and flooding, causing road closures and making many areas inaccessible for crews, delaying damage assessments and restoration efforts. Strong tornadoes and significant debris caused major damage.
- The east coast was hit by dozens of tornadoes that devastated parts of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. The National Weather Service reported 38 tornado sightings, with more expected. These unusually powerful tornadoes, more intense than typical hurricane-related ones, destroyed communities and left tens of thousands without power.
What Customers Should Do After the Storm:
- Safety is the top priority for FPL crews and customers. Continue following warnings from local emergency officials.
- Drive carefully. Power outages can cause traffic signals to fail unexpectedly. If you encounter a signal that isn't working, treat it as a four-way stop.
- If using a portable generator, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe use. Never operate a generator indoors or in a garage.
- Stay away from downed power lines, flooded areas, and debris. Assume all power lines are energized.
- If you have an emergency, call 911.
- Report downed power lines or equipment sparking by calling 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).
