House fire in Prospect Heights, 1-26-22

**From the Prospect Heights Fire District:** *FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* **January 26, 2022** **PROSPECT HEIGHTS –** On Wednesday, January 26 at 7:48 p.m., the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District responded to a reported fire at 108 Patricia in Prospect Heights. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story home with fire in the attic. Thick smoke was visible from all roof eaves, but the fire had not yet spread into the main structure of the house. Within minutes of their arrival, the first engine crew deployed a hose line and quickly brought the initial fire under control. The focus then shifted to managing the fire in the roof and attic. At the same time, a full search of the home was conducted to ensure that all residents had safely evacuated. The fire was fully extinguished within 20 minutes using two hose lines and over a dozen fire apparatus. Approximately 40 firefighters were involved in the response. Afterward, crews spent nearly an hour inspecting the area for any remaining hot spots or signs of fire spreading to confirm that the fire was completely out. A total of five engines, five water tankers, two aerial trucks, two ambulances, one rescue squad, and several chief officers were on scene. In addition to the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and the Wheeling Fire Department, assistance came from the Des Plaines, Glenview, Mount Prospect, and Libertyville fire departments, as well as the Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove fire protection districts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities are working with local agencies to determine what led to the incident. The Prospect Heights Fire Protection District reminds residents to always have two escape routes from their homes, ensure smoke alarms are installed and functioning properly, and to create an emergency plan in case of fire or other disasters. Fire sprinklers can make a life-saving difference. If this home had been equipped with a fire sprinkler system, the fire would likely have been suppressed before emergency responders arrived, or at the very least, contained to the room where it started. *Photo by Larry Shapiro*
