The world's first commercial power station using direct silicon technology and the grid

On June 29, silicon maker 1366 Technologies and Japan's IHI Group jointly announced that the world's first 500kW solar power plant using direct silicon technology will complete grid-connected power generation and enter commercial operation. The plant, built by IPC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's IHI Group, is expected to reduce its emissions of 9500 tons of carbon dioxide over its life cycle.
"This commercial installation delivered all of our expectations for solar power generation, and in particular, direct silicon technology uses only 1/3 energy compared to traditional processes, so the energy payback period can be significantly reduced to 1 year "Frank van Millo, CEO of 1366 Technologies, said," The IHI Group has a long history of identifying and applying breakthrough technologies and we are proud that direct silicon technology is a new chapter in its history. "
The new power station is located in Hyogo, Japan. 1366 Technology Boston's demonstration facility built more than 120,000 direct wafers. Components manufactured by China's first-tier companies and passed the IEC test.
As early as this commercial installation, components made from direct silicon had long-term field tests in the United States, Germany and Japan and were successful. The completion of this project demonstrates 1366's ability to mass-produce direct silicon technology while underscoring the widespread appeal of downstream customers to advanced power plant systems of high quality, low cost and less carbon footprint.
"This successful installation has achieved our goal of always using innovative technologies to significantly reduce the cost of solar power and thereby expand our product portfolio in the renewable energy system," said Otani Oh, president of IHI Group's Energy and Environment Division.
The traditional production of silicon using many steps, high energy consumption, high waste ingot slicing process. 1366 Technology's direct silicon technology, as its name implies, grows polycrystalline silicon directly from the silicon melt, with high efficiency and half the cost. Another advantage of this technology is its "seamless engagement" with downstream battery pack customers. More than 60% of the market's battery pack customers can use their products without any new investment in equipment.
1366 Technologies is committed to the parity of photovoltaic Internet access, and to significantly reduce the cost of the most expensive silicon components in photovoltaic modules as the goal. The company brings together scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to develop revolutionary innovations and lean manufacturing processes and to create a new class of silicon that will make it the most cost-effective photovoltaic product with both efficiency and cost. 1366 Technology is headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts.
