Libertyville 2nd Alarm fire, 3-15-14
Larry Shapiro sent this report:
Around 10:15 PM on Saturday night, the Libertyville Fire Department received an emergency call about a barn fire on Bradley Road in Mettawa. Responding units came from Libertyville, Lake Forest, and Knollwood. When they arrived, they discovered flames engulfing one structure on the property of a large stable located at 855 N. Bradley Road. Libertyville’s Quint 462, Engine 463, Engine 461, and the Libertyville tender entered through the north driveway, while the Lake Forest engine approached from the south driveway. Lake Forest had access to a hydrant at the street, and Knollwood connected to another hydrant near the north driveway to supply water to the Libertyville teams. Initially, before securing reliable water sources, the Libertyville tender and two engines worked together to manage the situation.
Minutes later, the alarm was escalated to a Box Alarm, calling for additional resources, including water tenders. Thankfully, they managed to contain the fire effectively without needing to deploy the mutual aid water tenders. A second alarm was called in to request more personnel for the extensive overhaul efforts required after the blaze was under control.
