**January 8, 2015 – A Box Alarm at 11625 Fairfax Court in Tinley Park**
The scene was nothing short of surreal. The images tell the story—firefighters covered head-to-toe in ice and snow, their gear frozen solid from battling the elements while trying to extinguish the flames. It’s a testament to their grit and determination, especially in such brutal winter conditions. One photo shows a firefighter whose helmet is entirely encased in ice, looking like something out of a winter wonderland—but this was far from magical. Another image captures the raw power of the situation, showing firefighters working tirelessly as they maneuvered hoses through a blizzard-like backdrop.
These photos, all taken by Josh Boyajian, highlight just how challenging it can be for first responders when Mother Nature teams up with fire.

Excerpts from the Chicago Tribune:
The incident unfolded on a bitterly cold Thursday afternoon, catching everyone's attention due to its intensity and the heroic efforts of the Tinley Park firefighters. According to Assistant Fire Chief Kris Dunn, two individuals were injured during the blaze—one of them a firefighter who had fallen on an icy surface.
Fire dispatchers received the emergency call around 12:45 p.m., directing crews to the 16000 block of Fairfax Lane. Upon arrival, the firefighters encountered a raging fire emanating from both the first floor and the attached garage of the residence. Just as they were arriving, they also got word that someone might be trapped inside. Thankfully, further investigation revealed that the home was empty, sparing any additional danger.
What struck many was the sheer resilience shown by these firefighters as they pushed forward despite the sub-zero temperatures and slippery footing. It's not every day you see people risking everything to save others under such extreme circumstances.
