CNC machine tools are the mainstream equipment in the modern machinery manufacturing industry and are hot commodities in the market. The development of CNC machine tools in China has experienced over 30 years of ups and downs, and it has matured from its growth period. In 2008, the annual output reached 122,000 units.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, with a series of breakthroughs in key technologies and the formation of independent production capacity, China began to highlight the importance of foreign manufacturing and entered the ranks of high-speed CNC machine tools and high-precision CNC machine tool producing countries in the world. Driven by the demand, the output of CNC machine tools in China maintained a rapid growth, with an average annual compound growth rate of 37.4%. In 2010, the output of CNC machine tools in China reached 236,000 units, an increase of 62.2% year-on-year. In 2010, the consumption of CNC machine tools in China exceeded 6 billion USD and the number of units exceeded 100,000 units. CNC machine tools have become the mainstream of machine tool consumption.

The continuous investment in high-tech numerical control machine tools and basic manufacturing equipment science and technology major projects from 2009 till now shows the government’s determination to develop high-end CNC machine tools and basic manufacturing equipment. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, China will continue to invest and increase its efforts. Each year, major projects will drive more than 10 billion yuan of funds.

According to the Secretary-General of the International Association for Modeling, in the context of economic development, strong support of national policies, and revitalization of the upstream and downstream industries, the booming demand for the CNC machine tool industry in China will continue to grow at a high rate. In particular, high-end CNC machine tools will usher in a larger market. Space, in the next 3-5 years, the market growth rate of China's CNC machine tool industry will reach about 12%. This will inevitably bring about the market development of China's domestic CNC machine tools and its numerical control systems and related functional components. It will undoubtedly provide excellent opportunities for domestic CNC system manufacturers to continue to develop their own technologies and expand the market.

Looking into the twelfth five-year plan, the development of CNC machine tools in China will strive to solve the problems of large but not strong hosts, lagging development of numerical control systems and functional components, large gaps in key technology of high-end CNC machine tools, low product quality stability, and poor overall economic efficiency of the industry. It will raise the core competitiveness, independent innovation, quantitative integration, brand building and other aspects to a strategic height and achieve the goal of total industrial output value of 800 billion yuan. And strive to achieve a series of medium and long-term goals such as the transition from a machine tool to a machine tool, a powerful country, and the realization of a dominant position in the domestic market for domestic high-end CNC machine tools.
