China has the ability to design and manufacture large blowers of 4000~5800m3
The China Machinery Industry Federation, under the commission of the National Development and Reform Commission, recently held a demonstration meeting focused on the localization of large blast furnace blowers in China. Experts from Sinopec, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, research institutions, and Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd. participated in the event. The meeting successfully reviewed the localized technical plan for blast furnace blowers with capacities exceeding 4,000m³. It was unanimously agreed that China now possesses the capability to design and manufacture large-scale blowers ranging from 4,000 to 5,800m³, marking a major milestone in the industry's self-reliance.
Blast furnace blowers are essential components in the power supply system of blast furnaces used in ironmaking. Large blast furnace blower units refer specifically to the equipment supporting blast furnaces with a capacity of 4,000m³ or more. These systems can deliver air volumes of 7,000 to 10,000 Nm³/min, with driving power ranging from 30,000 kW to 60,000 kW. They typically consist of large air blowers, automatic control systems, electronic control systems, and drive machines. Globally, there are currently 20 large blast furnaces with capacities between 4,000 and 5,500 m³, but only four of them are located in China. However, the corresponding large blast furnace blowers for these facilities are still imported from abroad.
With the ongoing expansion of large blast furnaces in China's metallurgical sector, more than 10 new blast furnaces in the 4,000–5,500 m³ range are either under construction or planned. This growing demand highlights the urgency of localizing the production of large blast furnace blowers.
Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd. is the only company in China capable of designing and manufacturing large blast furnace blower units. To date, it has produced over 20 large blowers with air flow rates exceeding 7,000 Nm³/min, covering the requirements of 4,000–5,500 m³ blast furnaces. At the meeting, the expert panel highly praised the company’s production capabilities, quality assurance system, and after-sales service. They recommended that relevant government departments enhance coordination and guidance in the localization process of ultra-large blast furnace blower units. Additionally, policy incentives should be provided to manufacturers and users who are willing to adopt and apply the first domestically produced large-scale equipment.
