China breaks the monopoly of multinational companies on the synthetic process of acetic acid
On August 2nd, the Yankuang Group in Zaozhuang City, Shandong Province, officially launched construction of a major chemical project with a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan. This facility will produce 300,000 tons of acetic acid and 100,000 tons of ethyl acetate annually. As part of China's national 863 Program, the project aims to break the technological monopoly held by multinational corporations by introducing an advanced coal-water slurry gasification technology developed independently by Yankuang.
The project, led by Yankuang Cathay Chemical Co., Ltd., represents a significant breakthrough in China's coal chemical industry. It is equipped with proprietary intellectual property rights and meets international technical standards. The plant will not only boost local economic development but also position Yankuang as the largest acetic acid producer in Shandong Province.
Currently, all key design plans, including underground pipeline layouts, civil foundation blueprints, and the comprehensive control building design, have been finalized. The "four connections and one leveling" infrastructure work on the site has been completed, and major equipment orders are nearly finalized, with the project expected to be fully operational within 24 months.
Once operational, the plant is projected to generate a production value of 2 billion yuan and contribute 600 million yuan in profits and taxes annually. This achievement marks a milestone in China’s effort to develop self-reliant and technologically advanced chemical manufacturing capabilities, reducing dependence on foreign technologies and strengthening the domestic industrial ecosystem.
