Autodesk adds cloud-based Product Data Management to Fusion Lifecycle
At Accelerate 2016 in Boston, Autodesk introduced a groundbreaking enhancement to its Fusion Lifecycle suite by launching the very first cloud-based Product Data Management (PDM) solution. This marks a significant milestone as it completes the concept-to-market workflow under one unified platform, offering businesses an end-to-end Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience in the cloud.
For product developers, whether they’re part of a global corporation or a startup, having a cohesive set of tools simplifies their workflows. They shouldn't have to juggle multiple apps or platforms while transferring data between them. Fusion Lifecycle addresses this by providing a comprehensive product innovation platform that integrates CAD, CAM, CAE, PLM, and IoT data management into one seamless environment.
The newly added Cloud PDM functionality is integrated directly within Fusion Lifecycle and is available right away. It empowers engineers to collaborate on designs and manage CAD data and documentation efficiently. Teams can now collaborate seamlessly on designs, track versions and releases, and link these designs to manufacturing workflows, ensuring smoother data sharing across departments.
Fusion Lifecycle simplifies the management of design data just like saving files to folders—only smarter. With automated revision control and versioning, it enhances collaboration between engineering teams and other parts of the organization. Features like real-time design reviews, 3D file viewing and annotation, and streamlined Bill of Materials (BOM) and Engineering Change Order (ECO) management make the platform even more robust.
Brian Hunter, Quality Control Manager at NovaCentrix, expressed excitement about the new capabilities: "As avid users of Fusion Lifecycle for over a year, we've seen immense improvements in our product development process. Adding Cloud PDM to our existing suite will significantly boost our operational efficiency."
Looking ahead, Autodesk is expanding its offerings to help manufacturers stay competitive in today's fast-paced market. One such addition is Fusion Connect, which introduces Dynamic Predictive Analytics powered by Nutonian’s AI technology. This feature aims to make sense of vast amounts of IoT data, providing actionable insights without needing specialized data scientists. It also allows for precise predictions regarding product failures, potentially revolutionizing operational strategies.
Another upcoming tool is Fusion Configure, designed specifically for manufacturers dealing with highly customizable products. By automating the configure-price-quote process, Fusion Configure streamlines the creation and delivery of tailored products, helping businesses meet consumer demands for personalization while maintaining profitability.
All these enhancements come with the convenience of being cloud-based, eliminating the need for costly installations or upgrades. Engineers enjoy increased flexibility, accessing critical design data anytime, anywhere, ensuring continuity in projects regardless of physical location.
Lisa Campbell, Vice President of Manufacturing Industry Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, summarized their vision: "Historically, product development involved fragmented software tools leading to inefficiencies. We aim to transform this landscape by delivering innovative solutions that redefine how products are conceptualized, manufactured, and utilized."
These latest updates underscore Autodesk's commitment to fostering innovation through advanced technologies, setting a benchmark for the future of product development and manufacturing.
