June 11, 2012 ABB , the world's leading power and automation technology group, has won orders from Saudi Power Corporation for more than $ 30 million to implement substation projects for transmission and distribution operators in the country.

ABB will be responsible for the design, supply and installation of two new 132/13.8 kV substations. Rapidly developing cities are striving to expand their industrial bases and reduce their dependence on oil.

OlegAleinikov , head of ABB's substation business, said, " These substations will help increase power generation capacity to meet growing power demands and promote industrial development in the region. It will also help improve grid reliability and power quality. "

ABB 's fully contracted engineering range includes key products such as high and medium pressure gas and air insulated switchgear, transformers, auxiliary systems and cable delivery. ABB will also provide SCADA ( Monitoring and Data Acquisition ) systems with international IEC61850 standards , as well as automation, control, protection and communication systems, remotely monitoring and controlling multiple sites from the Central Power Assets Regional Control Center.

The substation will also be equipped with capacitors to reduce power loss, improve the quality of the power supply and increase the power factor of the network. This project indicator is scheduled to be completed in 2014 .

ABB is the world's leading supplier of fully-contracted air-insulated, gas-insulated and mixed-voltage substations up to 1100kV . These substations promote efficient and reliable environmental impacts with minimal power transmission and distribution for utility, industrial and commercial customers as well as services such as rail, urban transport and renewable energy.

ABB Group is a leader in power and automation technology, committed to improving the performance of utilities and industrial customers while reducing environmental impact. The ABB Group has operations in more than 100 countries and employs approximately 145,000 people.
