**BANGKOK, May 25, 2016** — Today, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Autodesk announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at boosting Thailand's manufacturing competitiveness by promoting widespread adoption of advanced 3D technologies and digital manufacturing solutions.
Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, the Minister of Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of Thailand transitioning from the Thailand 3.0 model to the Thailand 4.0 model to become a developed nation. He explained, “To move beyond a middle-income country to a high-income status, we must shift from performance-driven to innovation-led economies. Industry 4.0, which leverages digital technologies, will play a pivotal role here. By directly connecting consumer demands to production processes, it eliminates the need for large-scale factories as a competitive advantage. This transformation will significantly impact the country’s economic structure.â€
He further highlighted how partnerships between global leaders like Autodesk and NSTDA will empower local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to integrate digital tools into their design and manufacturing workflows. “This collaboration aligns perfectly with the government’s objectives to foster industries such as biotechnology, renewable energy, and creative economies,†he noted.
NSTDA and Autodesk plan to jointly establish a ‘Digital Manufacturing Platform’ under the National Digital Economy Master Plan. Over the next three years, this initiative aims to provide subscription-based access to Autodesk’s suite of 3D design, manufacturing, simulation, and collaboration tools to up to 100,000 engineers and vocational professionals across businesses of all sizes.
Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, NSTDA President, remarked, “Digital manufacturing technologies and talent development are crucial for Thailand’s success in today’s competitive landscape. By leveraging Autodesk’s solutions, local stakeholders can accelerate innovation and foster collaboration, contributing to the government’s broader vision for a digital economy.â€
Key components of the Digital Manufacturing Platform include Autodesk’s Fusion 360 and A360 Team. Fusion 360 integrates computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing (CAM), and engineering (CAE) into a single, accessible platform. A360 enhances teamwork by centralizing project information and enabling seamless collaboration.
Rama Tiwari, Autodesk’s Regional Director for ASEAN, underscored the transformative potential of emerging technologies such as IoT, augmented reality, robotics, and additive manufacturing. “The Digital Manufacturing Platform equips Thai talent and businesses with the tools to revolutionize every stage of the manufacturing process, positioning Thailand as a leader in the future of making things,†he stated.
In addition to the Digital Manufacturing Platform, NSTDA and Autodesk are collaborating on joint research programs and developing technology platforms to support smart city initiatives.
