**BANGKOK, May 25, 2016** — Today, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Autodesk entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance Thailand's manufacturing competitiveness through widespread adoption of advanced 3D technologies and digital manufacturing solutions.
“Thailand must evolve in the 21st century, transitioning from the Thailand 3.0 model to a ‘Thailand 4.0 model,’ to achieve further progress toward becoming a developed nation. This shift aims to elevate Thailand from a middle-income to a high-income economy by moving away from performance-driven operations to innovation-led growth. One of the key strategies for achieving this is through embracing Industry 4.0 technologies, which emphasize the integration of digital solutions in manufacturing. A crucial aspect of this transformation is the direct connection between consumer demands and production processes, which means large-scale factories may no longer define competitive advantages,†stated **Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj**, Minister of Science and Technology.
“By partnering with global leaders like Autodesk, we can empower local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to integrate digital tools into their design and manufacturing workflows. Additionally, this initiative will boost the skill sets of Thai professionals, preparing them for future opportunities in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, it aligns with the government’s policies, particularly in biotechnology, renewable energy, engineering, and creative industries, which are essential for improving national prosperity,†added **Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj**, Minister of Science and Technology.
NSTDA, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Autodesk plan to jointly establish a ‘Digital Manufacturing Platform’ in support of Thailand’s National Digital Economy Master Plan. Over the next three years, this platform will offer subscription-based access to Autodesk’s 3D design, manufacturing, simulation, and collaboration tools, along with training resources, to up to 100,000 engineers and vocational professionals across businesses of all sizes.
“Manufacturing remains vital to our economic success. By leveraging digital manufacturing technologies and fostering talent development, Thailand can thrive in a highly competitive global market. Powered by Autodesk’s innovations, the Digital Manufacturing Platform will accelerate innovation among local players while promoting interconnectedness and collaboration, in line with the government’s vision for a Digital Economy,†explained **Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool**, President of NSTDA.
Central to the Digital Manufacturing Platform are two key technologies: Autodesk’s Fusion 360 and A360 Team. Fusion 360 combines computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing, and engineering (CAM/CAE) into one integrated solution available on Mac, PC, or mobile devices. It facilitates seamless collaboration via A360, which streamlines teamwork and consolidates all project-related data and activities in one centralized location.
“Emerging technologies like IoT, augmented reality, robotics, and additive manufacturing are reshaping the industry landscape. The Digital Manufacturing Platform equips local talent and companies with the necessary tools to reinvent the entire manufacturing value chain, positioning Thailand as a leader in the Future of Making Things,†said **Mr. Rama Tiwari**, Regional Director of Sales for ASEAN at Autodesk.
The Digital Manufacturing Platform is just one component of the ongoing collaboration between NSTDA and Autodesk to support Thailand’s Digital Economy initiatives. Additional focus areas include joint research programs and developing technology platforms to bolster the nation’s Smart Cities efforts.
