Submarine seismograph will travel with the 28th Antarctic expedition to Antarctica

The Antarctic is known as the Seventh Continent, and it is the last continent on earth to be discovered and the only one that does not have indigenous peoples. It not only attracts people's attention because of mystery, but also because of the extreme environment and abundant resources, it attracts people to go to expedition. For the deep geological structure and its evolution in the Antarctic waters, Chinese scientists have been conducting research. As China's 28th Antarctic expedition team is about to travel to Antarctica, the study will be launched accordingly.

It is reported that the 28th Antarctic expedition team will take the 'Snow Dragon' scientific expedition ship to the South Pole and launch a submarine seismograph at the South Pole. This is also the first time that China has placed a submarine seismograph in the Antarctic region. The seismograph will stay in the South Pole for 3 months, record the earthquake situation in the Antarctic continent and surrounding sea areas, and then be brought back to China for data analysis and research. At the same time, marine magnetometers and marine gravimeters will also help in the future and carry out marine geomagnetic surveys and marine gravity surveys on the outer oceans of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The composition of the submarine seismograph does not appear to be complicated. It is composed of seismographs, recorders and releasers. However, the various parts are closely coordinated and can accurately obtain relevant data. If a seismic wave is received, the sensor in the seismometer can sense it sensitively and convert the seismic wave into an electronic signal. At the same time, the collection and storage of electronic signals is completed by a recorder. Finally, scientists can obtain relevant information through the release device.

For the first time, China puts submarine seismographs in the Antarctic area, which is of great significance. It can enable China to grasp relevant data and master the earthquake conditions in the Antarctic continent and its surrounding sea areas. Coupled with data obtained from marine magnetometers and marine gravimeters, China can actively carry out research on the deep geological structure and its evolution in the Antarctic waters.
