According to relevant statistical data, China’s machine tool product imports increased rapidly in 2011, with imports of US$20.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 29%. The continuous growth over the years has brought China's machine tool industry to the top of the world in terms of scale. China's machine tool industry has matured, and its future development will be based on innovation, improvement, and optimization. It can be said that China's machine tool industry has gradually evolved from a basic industry with a strategic position to a basic and pillar industry with strategic position and economic status.

Experts believe that the entire society's scientific and technological innovation and energy conservation and environmental protection consciousness have risen unprecedentedly. Under the influence of the dual factors of the declining growth rate and the whole society's structural adjustment and transfer mode, the market demand structure is accelerating. This will inevitably bring about the need for upgrading of manufacturing equipment. This point can be well verified from the import statistics in 2011. Wu Bolin, executive vice president of the China Machine Tool Industry Association, believes that after the "11th Five-Year Plan" rapid development, although our CNC machine tool industry has begun to take shape and achieved remarkable results in independent innovation, the international status of the industry has been achieved. Significantly improved, but we should also see that the problems that restrict the development of the industry still exist: First, technological progress is relatively lagging behind; second, the development approach focuses on scale expansion. Wu Berlin told reporters that the basic characteristics of the machine tool industry at this stage are large but not strong, and its main contradiction is that the accelerated upgrading of the domestic market demand structure is incompatible with the industry's supply capacity.
