Global wind power installed capacity will reach 200GW in 2010

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) predicts that the installed capacity of wind power in the world is expected to grow by approximately 40 GW in 2010, with a total installed capacity of 200 GW. By 2014, it will have doubled to 400 GW. GWEC Secretary-General Steve Sawyer stated at the International Wind Energy Expo in Husum, Germany on the 23rd of this month that the wind power market still has good development prospects and market competitiveness.

GWEC forecasts in its external news that about half of the newly installed capacity in 2010 came from emerging economies and developing countries. Due to the economic crisis, the US market has resulted in a reduction in the number of orders. The Chinese market has a strong development momentum, and the European market has remained relatively stable. Growth in 2014 will still mainly come from China, the United States and Europe. At the same time, more countries will enter the wind power sector, especially in Latin America, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
