Code 4 fire in Glencoe, 4-30-15

I just arrived at the construction site on 328 Tudor Court where there was a fire reported on the roof. When I got here, I could see several pallets loaded with styrofoam ablaze, creating a thick plume of smoke that was quite noticeable. Northfield and Winnetka had already positioned their ladder trucks to access the roof, and they were using handlines to tackle the flames. Glencoe and Northfield were busy hooking up to hydrants, ensuring they had a steady water supply. Wilmette also brought out their hoses and identified a hydrant, but they didn’t end up needing to supply water. It seemed like the other departments had things under control. Highwood and Highland Park were present as well, lending support where needed. One of the construction workers ended up being transported by Glenview Ambulance 6 to Highland Park Hospital, though I’m not sure what his condition is. The photos I took show the impressive amount of smoke rising from the roof, making it clear how intense the situation was. You can see the Pierce Saber fire engine on-site, along with a Smeal quint and an E-ONE e-MAX fire engine. There’s also a photo of a firefighter pulling hose lines, another of a firefighter on an aerial ladder dealing with the smoke, and one of a fire truck partially obscured by the thick smoke. The Pierce Impel fire engine was hooked up to a hydrant, and there’s even a shot of an aerial truck deployed on its jacks, ready for action. It’s always intense to see how quickly firefighters can mobilize and handle these situations. If you want to see more photos, they’re available at shapirophotography.net. It’s been a busy day here, but everyone worked together effectively to manage the fire.
