Chicago 4-11 Alarm fire 11-15-13 (pt2)
This is from Larry Shapiro:
I was on the highway when the still alarm was dispatched at Peterson & Lincoln. I had a feeling it might be worth checking out, so I turned around and headed that way. The box alarm came just as I was driving through the area (I captured the first image through my windshield). Then, the 2-11 was called as I was getting out of my car, half a block away in traffic. My wife, being the great sport she is, parked the car and waited for me.
Engine 71 was operating with a deck gun in Sector 4 on Albany, and I almost caught Truck 56 with their new Spartan ladder on the 1-4 roof. It was pulling out as I arrived on that side. I was hoping to see it up and working for two reasons: first, I’ve never photographed one of these aerials at a working fire, and second, the last time there was a Still & Box Alarm at this center, it was the day before they were scheduled to turn in their Seagrave and pick up the Spartan.
Eventually, Engine 71 had to pull back because an electric transformer on the 3-4 corner exploded violently due to the intense fire storm raging where they were working.
A third tower ladder was added to the response, along with two more truck companies. The fire crossed one firewall on the eastern edge of the center but was contained by the next one between the mattress store and the hair salon.
I'm currently working on a video that will be posted once it's finished.
