Chicago 4-11 Alarm fire 11-15-13 (pt2)
This is from Larry Shapiro:
I was on Peterson & Lincoln yesterday when the 4-alarm was called in. I was on the highway when they sent out the still alarm, and I had a feeling it might be worth checking out. The box alarm came just as I was taking the first photo through the windshield, and the 2-11 was called in just as I was getting out of my car, half a block away. My wife, being the great sport she is, parked the car and waited for me.
Engine 71 had a deck gun going in Sector 4 on Albany, and I almost caught Truck 56 with their new Spartan ladder on the 1-4 roof. It was pulling out as I got to that side. I was hoping to capture a shot of one of these aerials in action at a working fire. Plus, the last time there was a Still & Box Alarm at this center, it was the day before they turned in their Seagrave to get the new Spartan.
Eventually, Engine 71 had to pull back after an electric transformer exploded violently due to the intense firestorm in the area where they were working.
A third tower ladder and two more truck companies were added to the response. The fire crossed one firewall on the eastern edge of the center but was stopped at the next one between the mattress store and the hair shop.
I’m currently working on a video that will be posted once it's complete.
