2-Alarm house fire in South Barrington, 8-11-22

On August 11, 2022, Barrington and Countryside firefighters were quickly dispatched to two separate house fires reported in the afternoon. Fire crews arrived almost simultaneously at both locations—one on Penny Drive, which turned out to be unfounded, and another at 4 McGlashen Drive in South Barrington. Upon arrival, police officers on the scene reported heavy fire in the garage, with neighbors stating they had heard an explosion. The incident was initially classified as a Code 3, but it was soon upgraded to a Code 4 Working Fire. As the situation escalated, a MABAS Box Alarm was called for, and firefighters transitioned to a defensive position. A second alarm was requested just minutes later, reflecting the growing intensity of the blaze. Firefighters managed to contain the fire primarily to the garage and kitchen areas upon arrival. The large home is located within a gated community that lacks hydrants, so a tanker shuttle system was used to supply water for the firefighting efforts. A total of twelve tankers were deployed, including units from Barrington Countryside, Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Round Lake, Bartlett, Nunda, Libertyville, Fox River Grove, Crystal Lake, Wauconda, Huntley, and McHenry Township. At the scene, fire apparatus included trucks from Hoffman Estates and Palatine, squads from Cary and Schaumburg, and engines from Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Algonquin, Buffalo Grove, Grayslake, Lincolnshire, and Lake Zurich, along with three units from Barrington Countryside. Ambulances were provided by Barrington, Mount Prospect, and Des Plaines. Multiple photos captured the intense firefighting efforts, with Larry Shapiro documenting the scene. These images highlight the dedication and coordination of the responding agencies during this significant fire incident.
